Having owned 3 different cheap DVD recorders (lite-on, Alba then daewoo) and all of them breaking within a year and being returned to amazon, sainsbury’s and amazon respectivly, i felt it was time to spend a little bit more and go for a hard drive recorder.

This one seemed fairly good value and had a 160gb drive, compared with others which had an 80gb, but were more expensive, so i gave daewoo another chance, after being dissapointed with their DVD recorder.

I was not dissapointed this time. This HDD/DVD recorder is fantastic - good quality, simple to use, loads of disc space (i dont use dvds anymore - the HDD is just so handy), simple to set up and even has a time shifting (pause/rewind live TV) function a la sky plus (i’m on ntl/virgin media). The remote control is also very clear and easy to use (many remotes these days are a scrambled mess of tiny buttons)

the only down side is there is noticable fan noise while it is on (which is only a problem if watching a quiet part in a film, it is usually drowned out by TV at normal volume) and it can take a while to warm up (maybe 15-20 seconds) which is a little annoying when you want to record something straight away.

other than that it is a great bit of kit, and well worth the money - usually you get what you pay for with electronics, but this is an acception - it’s a bargain that actually works well.

Fantastic value for money, got some great features, very easy to set up and use. Very high quality recordings, piece of cake to turn in to a multi region player, just use google!

Would recommend as a great entry level or mid range recorder.
