This is a wonderful product. I looked around for ages deciding which HDD Freeview box to buy to replace my unreliable DVD recorder. Set-up is dead easy - the picture is great, the remote is simple and intuitive, the on-screen graphics are very pleasing, and the various functions work reliably. The fan noise isn’t as bad as I had feared, either.
I particularly like the fact you can hide channels you don’t/can’t watch, which tidies up the EPG and makes searching for programmes more straightforward. Copying to DVD from the HDD is very simple, and far more reliable than my old recorder.
All in all, a very, very impressive piece of kit.
After much research I decided on this product, I am glad I did. It is the best, very little noise (not worth bothering with) Brings in a much better signal than my last Freeview box, simple to use, series link is better than Sky (as soon as it goes to all chanells its good buy Sky )its only on BBC at present. No problems at all, the best thing I ever got!!!!
After all those years of VHS tapes and little hiccups in progamming, this machine was a revelation in sheer ease of use and ease of setting up. There is a slight noise from the HDD, but nowhere near the amount of noise from my computer HDD’s, and we find it non-intrusive.
I purchased this for my in-laws to use. I thought about Sky but didn’t want to pay the monthly fee. I already own the Sony RDRHXD710 which this is probably a replacement for. It took me about 15 minutes to set up at the in-laws. The freeview picture quality is great, channels comes through loud and clear (they live in a good signal area). The unit is very quiet. The EPG is good, certainly easier to use than the Philips one I have experienced. The editing features work fine, dubbing to DVD is quick on my Verbatim -R and -RW DVDs. Recording programs is easy, finding and playing back recordings is also simple. My only niggle is the MP3/JPEG facility should be extended to DVD and HDD and not just be restricted to CD. But if you are only buying this for the TV then who cares about the music!
